Abstract

Dear readers and researchers,

In March 2019, we continue to be included in international indexes with rich content with the first issue of the third volume of the Journal of Early Childhood Studies (JECS). I must say that; I would like to express my gratitude to the executive board members who give us courage and strength for our journal that we continue to publish with enthusiasm.

In this issue, the first review article written by Şuheda Bozkurt Yükçü, Aslı İzoğlu Tok and Saniye Bencik Kangal is “The current situation of children's literature: A Developmental overview of the preschool picture e-books”. This study draws attention to the e-book features that is current topics in children's literature. The other article is belong to Sadiye Keleş and Özlem Yurt with the title of “Making thinking visible in early childhood education: Visible thinking approach”. The researchers provide detailed information about the Visible Thinking Approach, emphasizing  use of Thinking Routines, which are short, reproducible, flexible mini-strategies aiming thinking for all individuals interacting with the child.

As research article, “Children, mothers, and preschool teachers’ perceptions of play: Findings from Turkey and Norway” written by Asiye İvrendi, Nilgün Cevher-Kalburan, Ellen Beate Hansen Sandseter, Rune Storli and Anne Holla Sivertsen draws attention. This study is an intercultural study and examined the current perceptions of children, mothers and teachers in Turkish and Norwegian cultures in the context of Cultural Historical Activity Theory as an analytical tool. The other study called “A good parent is not always the parent who does everything, every time for his/her child: A Study to Develop Helicopter Parent Attitude/s Scale (HPAS)” was carried out by Hasan Yılmaz. When the need for attitude scales in our field are taken into account, it is very contributing study. In another study named “Preschool children’s prejudices: A phenomenological study” conducted by Meryem Nur Çelik and İkbal Tuba Şahin-Sak, prejudices of children against the factors related to race, age, physical competences, physical characteristics, economic situation, gender and family structure was described. In another study carried out by Yıldız Güven, Ebru Ayvaz and İlkay Göktaş with the title of “Investigation of the relationship between theory of mind and social problem solving skills of preschool children” meets us. In the last article written by Şenay Özen Altınkaynak is “Views of mothers regarding early literacy process”. This study will provide suggestions to parents whose children passed from preschool education to primary school process.
