Abstract

The aim of this study, it was examinated early Literacy and working memory skills of the preschoolers. This study group was consisted of one hundred children between 5 and 6 years old who continue to preschool education, and was selected by random sampling method. Memory battery for preschool children and Early Literacy Skills Scaling Test (ELSST) were used when collecting the data. The tests of Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis-H, Spearman Brown’s correlation coefficent and variations were used when analyzing the data. Tukey Test was used to find the source of the difference in the scale scores. In the results of the study, it was found that boys have higher scores than girls in the area of Visual–Spatial in working memory. There was a positive and meaningfull connection between working memory and early literacy skills of the children. Especially there was a closerelation between working memory and phonological awareness.
