Abstract

The aim of the mainstreaming programs is to help children with special needs to gain social adaptation skills. The mainstreaming programs can also help to increase respect for diversity and social acceptance for individuals with special needs in society.   The teachers who are keys to the success of these programs face with three main questions generally: How can I communicate with a child with special needs? How can I deal with the problems? How can I modify the educational program? The teachers usually have negative attitudes towards mainstreaming programs due to lack of knowledge on children with special needs. Therefore, it is necessary to inform teachers on children with special needs within the teacher education programs and provide them practices with counsellor support for successful application of the mainstreaming programs and to improve teacher attitudes
